Muddy Amaretto Orchard

Fall tells us, “I gotcha. Here’s all the glamor and flavor of the season even if you still can’t wear your favorite sweater”.

This drink is complex yet light. Sweet but tart. It’s perfect to kick back and take in the last of the season’s warmth.

Disclaimer: I don’t own bar staples such as mixers or gadgets nor do I know techniques. I often get frustrated when I see a cocktail recipe that has 8 things listed and 6 things I would only use for that one drink. I keep it simple (believe it or not) and you can trust it will taste good.

Muddy Orchard Amaretto Ingredients
water
ice
2 Tbl lemon juice (have 2 lemons on hand)
1.5 tsp sugar
3 Tbl apple butter
2 Tbl amaretto

Muddy Orchard Amaretto Directions
Fill a glass with ice and fill with water. We’re just getting the water cold at the moment but you will need ¼ c water for the drink. You want more water in the glass to make it easier on yourself.

Take a lemon and using the heel of your hand, press downward while rolling the lemon back and forth. Once the skin softens, cut it around the equator. Squeeze the lemon to get 2 Tbl of juice. Pour 2 Tbl of lemon juice into an old fashioned glass.

Add 1.5 tsp of sugar and 3 Tbl apple butter to the glass. Stir it until well incorporated.

Add 1 Tbl of water and stir. Repeat three more times (total of 4 Tbl or ½ c). Stir in the 2 Tbl amaretto. You should have a ½ glass of liquid. Top it with fresh ice to make a full glass.

Notes
For a non-alcoholic version, leave out the amaretto and use the tiniest amount of almond or amaretto extract.

My dad suggested using white rum in lieu or amaretto. I think a spiced rum would also work nicely. Either option would give you a very different drink, a far less fruity one, but still a good drink.
